  • How Mayonde is already killing it in 2019

How Mayonde is already killing it in 2019

From the beginning, she’s been killing it. First as Diana Nduba as she tried to find her unique sound. She then settled with Mayonde, a fitting name for this Kenyan goddess who believes she was once an ancient Mayan ruler.

In 2015, you would have classified her as an indie soul singer just from listening to her debut album Magic in The Air. She charmed her way into our hearts with the uplifting Rise, heavenly Angels and the dancey Isikuti Love. But this was only a teaser.

Music of the month – February 2017

Another month has come and gone, and some of us are still single. February is that time of the year when most artists decide to release soppy love songs, just because Valentines. However, these musicians tried to steer away from the norm.

7 Unique Underrated Artists You’ve Been Sleeping On

I didn’t always use to be like this. An underrated music junkie that is. Just a year ago, it was foreign and unwelcome to my ears. Before then all I cared about was pop music and the latest hits, like every other human being on earth. (Did I hear someone say “Rick Dees, and the Weekly Top 40″).

But to be honest with you, I had no clue what I was missing.

Music of the month – August 2016

You know that time when it’s finally summer, and you can’t wait to bask in the glorious heat all day? Only for the sun to play hide and seek games with the globe? And all you get are white boring clouds?
Well, that’s how cold this August has been around here.

  • Music of the month – July 2016

It’s the end of the month which can only mean one thing people… No, not getting your salary that you might spend and finish in the next two weeks. Of course that is if you are working and are employed.
Speaking of, shout out to all my non-working students and self-employed business people!

Music of the month – June 2016

Woah, what a month ! This June has been quite cold and dreary, at least for us who live near the equator. And don’t know the real meaning of summer. Fortunately, I have some hot new music releases to keep you warm and energized for another “winter” month or so.

Music of the month – May 2016

The gods are not happy. Nope. In fact, they are infuriated. They say it’s been forever since I last did an exclusive music post.

They claim that I have forgotten my roots. How to be The Music Junkie. But it’s simply not accurate.

  • Music videos that simply Rock

    Music videos that simply Rock

Did you know that rock songs have some of the most interesting music videos? Yup, it’s true. Maybe it’s to do with their rebellious nature since artistes have the freedom to express themselves in whatever way they wish to. I guess that is why rock music isn’t quite mainstream. Fortunately some of these songs make their way to the public and became instant hits.

It’s no secret that I love rock music. But of late, my love for the genre has been renewed thanks to the fantastic songs that were released in 2015. Most of them were alternative rock, some were fun, while others had a message. And thanks to YouTube, we can enjoy their brilliant videos too.

So here it is, a list of music videos that rocked 2015 and still do.

    “Renegades” by X Ambassadors

Renegades is the very first successful single of the American rock band from their debut album VHS. Just like the song, the video is beautiful as it shows people with disabilities overcoming challenges and doing things you wouldn’t think they could. The message is clear, disability doesn’t stop people from going after their dreams.

This touching video was actually inspired by the band’s pianist Casey Harris who is blind from birth. It’s deep, and that’s why it rocks.

“Victorious” by Panic! at the Disco

This is the song that’s responsible for introducing me to my favorite rock band right now, Panic! at the Disco. Its video has quite an interesting concept; to celebrate all kinds of the victories whether big or small.

This is one of the most entertaining rock videos I have ever watched.

    “Irresistible” by Fall Out Boy

Irresistible is the third single from Fall Out Boy’s album American Beauty/American Psycho. Personally, I prefer the remix featuring Demi Lovato to the original. But this particular video takes the cake with its incredibly cheesy humour.

To be honest with you, it is quite irresistible.

    “New Americana” by Halsey

New Americana has more of an alternative pop sound. However, it is by the rebel herself Halsey. The song comes from her 2015 debut album Badlands and talks about the new American generation which is ‘high on legal marijuana’. Perfect vibe for the 21-year old singer with blue hair who refuses to dress like a typical girl.

The video itself looks like a cut from The Hunger Games or the TV series The 100. It is empowering and fierce, and that’s why it deserves to be on this list.

“SHUT UP + DANCE” by Walk The Moon

Shut Up and Dance is undoubtedly one of the 2015’s dance anthems. It is also the biggest single (yet) of American rock band Walk The Moon from their second album Talking Is Hard.

This hit song was actually inspired by the lead singer’s girlfriend who invited him to dance one day in an LA nightclub. And the rest as they say, is success history.

What more can I say about this fun and colourful video? Nothing really. So lemme just shut up and dance!

Let’s hope that 2016 will also be a year filled with more great rock music because I just can’t get enough. In the meantime, allow me to listen to my current rock song obsession, for the fifth time today.

    Celebrating Halloween, Video Style

Boo! It’s that creepy time of the year again, when you can pretend to be whoever you want to be without fear of judgement. As we commemorate the world’s third favorite holiday (after Christmas and New Year’s of course), what better way to do so than with spooky music videos. As always, this music junkie has got you covered.
