Wagwan. I’m Furaha, a Kenyan music journalist, events host and your new favourite DJ!

Welcome to LaMusicJunkie, a platform dedicated to highlighting alternative African artists, events, and brands. What started as a simple blog in 2015 quickly grew into a deep passion for Kenyan music. Along the way, I hosted The Music Junkies radio show which earned a Sondeka Award for celebrating underground Kenyan music in all its glory.
As a freelance writer, my work has been featured in Tangaza Magazine and Who What Where Magazine, where I have championed East African artists with the zeal of a superfan. I have documented some of the region’s most iconic music festivals from Beneath The Baobabs in Kilifi to the infamous Nyege Nyege in Uganda. And have perfected the art of storytelling while dodging muddy festival grounds.
In 2022, I launched my Kenyan music podcast The Top 5 with LaMusicJunkie, interviewing incredible artists like Wendy Kay, Liboi, and Nafsi Huru about their creative journeys. I have also highlighted oustanding projects by outstanding Kenyan musicians such as Ayrosh, Serro, and Waithaka. Because every artist deserves to be seen and heard.
Beyond reviewing, I’ve also hosted intimate art events at KWETU Space in Kakamega, The Terrace Art Space in Kilifi, and Santuri Salon in Nairobi, giving creatives a platform to express themselves. And in 2023, I graduated into a DJ after joining music innovation hub Santuri East Africa.
My motto? You need to know where you’re coming from to know where you’re going. That’s why I am currently exploring the Evolution of Kenyan Music, from as early as the 1900s. And tapping into our rich African culture through music.
As a selector, I take my listeners on an epic musical journey through Kenya’s past, present and future, spinning everything from benga and kapuka to Afrohouse with electrifying energy.
Call me DJ Raha.

When I’m not busy edutaining people at events, I help creatives grow their community by coaching them on how to start their own newsletters and connect with their audience online.
So, if you need someone to share your unique artist story, promote your latest music project, or spice up your next event…
